About the Artist: The subjects for my decorative wall hangings are inspired by the natural wonders we observe daily living on Watson’s Ridge (believe it or not, that is the actual name of the ridge we live on) and my formal training in environmental sciences. I apply my knowledge of material properties acquired working at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 25 years to enhance the crafting of my artistic creations. My Process: Pieces of metal representing flower petals and leaves and insect wings are cut out by hand and texturized and etched with grinders and dremel tools. Metal pieces are enhanced with a patina, or translucent powder coating. Wooden pieces representing other parts of the subject (e.g., insect body or flower center) are also used to hold the metal components in place with glue and decorative screws. Adornments, like twisted strands of copper representing antennae and probiscis on the butterfly and blue patina copper sealed in resin in the center of the sunflower, are added to complete the artwork. Stained glass is incorporated into my barn quilts and clock designs.
Upcycled Materials: I enjoy using upcycled/repurposed material (e.g., barnwood, wooden bed frames, ceiling fans, dried and pressed flowers and scrap metal) for the foundation of my creations.
Well Crafted Eclectic Wall Hangings: My products include flowers, 4-leaf clover, butterflies, dragonflies, barn quilts, star designs, clocks, dragons and lucky hemp head totems. I also make metal Christmas tree ornaments and bookmarks using patinated texturized copper and steel and wooden snowflakes for the holidays.
